Default Leafcutter Bee - why they cut leaves!

I found these when moving a plant that was in the greenhouse - I was very surprised to find them in the pot just below the surface at the edge. They were so perfectly formed that I at first thought that the tube was one whole leaf rolled up, impossible of course. Beautiful piece of work. I have repotted them in their own little pot. I have a bee hotel which was used last year, but not this - but who cares if they find other places to do raise their young.

Very interesting Louise, I've never seen one of those nests.

What is also interesting though, is that fact that you seem to have stumbled on a Bee which takes money and likes starting fires.

Yep, I forgot to say that it's also known as the moneymaker bee... it leaves pound coins about :-)
