Were at Beaulieu yesterday, and for 15 mins stood, watched and listened to the falconer in the abbey ruins.
His talk is always very interesting, but as there was no-where to sit down (apart from the wet grass!), we couldn't wait any longer, and only watched this bird being displayed.
As his talk was to do with the history of falconry as much as the birds he had with him, he didn't get to talking about the bird he held until we were leaving the scene! It might be a Long Legged Buzzard (NA), a Broad Winged Hawk/other. We couldn't hear what he said as we were by then some distance from him. Maybe someone here knows what it is?
He had the Peregrine Falcon, Harris Hawk and Eagle Owl with him as well. This time I didn't see his Lanner Falcon around. Maybe he brought this one instead!
BTW, all pics were taken from the back of the crowd. I couldn't stand any longer, so had to leave - otherwise I'd have managed much better shots close-up!
