Black-palp wolf spiders are a common species of European wolf spider. They dwell in low vegetation, such as gorse and heather. Only the males have the thick covering of black hair on the palps. When a male finds a female he performs a courtship dance, waving his front legs about and vibrating his abdomen. The female often responds by attacking him, but the male persists. If he's lucky he'll be allowed to climb on to the female and mate with her.
