    I do love metallic beetles - not sure I've seen a blue one myself.
    I'm not sure it's a Pittisporum Beetle though, as they are 10-15mm long, don't seem to wear the 'cap' that yours has, and I'm not sure that we find them in the UK (I could only find reference to them in Australasia).
    It looks to be a Leaf Beetle (a Chrysomelidae), and likely a flea Beetle of some sort (they are very tiny). Not sure which sort, though, the 'cap' is really throwing me.

    I agree that it has a lot in common (I did see what that beetle looked like, and although found some the same but at your size, I couldn't match the colour on the head.. although didn't spend ages looking as I do enough of that for my own finds!)), but the lack of blue on the head and the much greater size don't tally with yours (I'm not sure if the length of the head matches either - and as far as I can see we don't get a Pittosporum Beetle in the UK... although I'm willing to be put right on that. I would be interested to get ID confirmed (I always like to expand my knowledge) - maybe you could go to one of the more expert websites to get it confirmed.

    Aah, I didn't think about it being a young 'un. There are a lot out there that are similar apart from that 'hat', but I suppose it could develop into a whole-coloured head.. I don't know enough about beetle life-cycles... there's just so much to learn about nature!!

    I think it is more likely to be the youngster of this beetle. As you see there is a blue-ish blob on it's head which could indicate it is reaching maturity
