The equipment I use is a Canon 30D with Sigma 50-500mm lens. I also have a garden hide from which I take most of my pictures.

    Default Red Kites

We visited Gigrin Farm at Rhayader in Mid Wales on Monday and what a fabulous time we had.

We paid extra to stand in the photographic hide which is situated above the ground level hides. We were able to set our tripods up and had plenty of room to enable us to take photos. What a sight it was watching approx forty Red Kites flying above us and then suddenly swooping down to collect the meat which had been put out for them. Buzzards and Crows were also present but there was plenty food for all.

    Default babs' red kites

love these pictures babs. red kites are my second favourite bird ( swift being my first) a few years ago i wrote this verse about red kites.
    red kite
oh red kite, majestic, fork of tail,
soar free above the hills and dales.
a sight, such beauty to behold,
worth more to us than pots of gold.
mans' ignorance left an empty space,
now rise again, retake your place.
    transfix your beauty to behold,
worth more to us than pots of gold.
the damage done, man must rebuild,
so the hills and dales your presence guilds.
conservation, now, will show the way,
then you may live to have your day,
when your russet tones and symetry,
are once more a joy for all to see.
