    Default Great Spotted Woodpecker

Was walking along a nature foot path and could hear this Tap-tap-tapping
I knew it had to be a Woodpecker but where was it. I moved slowly close and closer to the tapping sounds and there he was as I came to the end of a bush low on a tree trunk quite close .He was making a nest hole. You can see it is nice and fresh. He inspected it several times then flew to another tree and commenced his drrrrrrilling

Well caught, Beryl! I've never seen that being done.

Magpies are building a nest in a tree 3 doors down, so I guess birds think spring has really arrived now!

    Thank you Catherine.
I have never seen it either. The tapping was so sort of gentle more like a patting sound. I have a video of a GSW chipping away at a branch of a tree but not making a nest hole
