These pigeons look so close, but they do apparently tend to mate for life.
I suppose it's a cosy enough place for them, but it's very messy, isn't it?
When seeing Carin off at New Milton station on Monday, we watched a pair of Wood Pigeons. They had chosen a similar place to nest - on top of the power cable conduit, under the back of the platform canopy. One was sitting on the partly-completed nest (female?) while the other (male) was gathering twigs in what seemed a bit of a frenzy.
I guess 'junior' was already ion the way and the nursery hadn't been 'decorated'!
Not sure if they will be allowed to stay on there though. Health and safety might intervene..............................
The Wood Pigeon in my garden chose a nice-looking spot to nest all tucked away (although I don't think they were successful... I assume they got raided by something)., but these pigeon are always in some exposed ad tatty place as they are town-centre. This is the railway bridge over one of the main roads into Reading.
This is where one year I saw one on the road (I assume a fledgeling) and it got run over at the tail end but only just. It was just sitting there because it was hurt, but there was a delay in the next car. A minute ir so later one did come along and finished it off, but it was awful to see
They certainly nest in some dangerous places, the West Reading railway bridge is a major nesting site.
