Here are 3 from Christchurch.
Here are 3 from Christchurch.
That last one looks like Charlie Chaplin
Nice set . Well spotted
Last year I introduced the first Andorran weather vanes. This year I present the first Canadian vanes! This one was spotted on a church spire in Toronto.
Well done
A new weather vane from me - on The Ship Inn, Old Quay, Lymington;
And another - on the Camera Obscura, Bournemouth this time!
Nice ones Catherine
Love those Catherine, was the Ship Inn one taken on the way in, or the way out?
@ Ross, nice to have another international one.
Now this one is probably one of the most unusual Ive ever seen.
We were on a coachtrip from Toronto to Niagara Falls, and idly looking out of the windows - and couldnt believe my eyes when I saw the Starship Enterprise! This isnt my pic - the camera wasnt handy - so Ive found an advert for it on google
(Normally I wouldnt bother but I HAVE to share this one!)
$1500 US if you want the small one from this company!

(You might want to have a look around the westcoastweathervane site - theres some **really** unusual vanes for sale on there

Nice ones, Catherine - I like the fish one, it's quite different........ although NOT quite as different as Ross's - I love it!!!! I have taken a look at the site that sells the Star Trek one and there's a lovely one with a wine bottle and glasses and there's red stained-glass in the glasses But I really like the Saturn & Comet weathervane
Rolf, I was on the Old Quay with my friends when I saw the weather vane and thought I'd take it just for you!
No, we hadn't been in, and we didn't go in after I took the pic! Honest!
Was thinking of taking Carin there at the weekend though - if she likes the idea!
LOVE the Star Trek one. Want it!
Ever seen a windvane on a house boat??
Spotted in Vancouver Harbour
And now the pride of my Canadian collection photos - some lovely ones from around Whistler town centre
Eagle - Bear - Deer - and an odd one where the figure seems to have fallen off
Now this is an odd one - Im not sure its actually an operational vane as there doesnt seem to be a rotating bit. It might just be a decorative thing with all the attachments on it!
In any case the cardinal points were pointing in a different direction to those on the surrounding buildings!
From N - W - S - E the decorations are:
mountain
deer
eagle
bear
I got some funny looks whilst photographing this - its on a bandstand type thing right in the middle of the main square and there were a lot of folks around!
And just a reminder that Whistler is a major winter sports resort

Crumbs, they don't muck about in Canada when it comes to vanes Ross, some beauties there.
Ive found two more whilst looking at the pics. these are both in Jasper , although the first one looks like its shrunk somewhat!
Its a chick rather than a chicken!
A video report about the rededication of the Truro Cathedral vane
BBC News - Truro Cathedral weather vane blessed
Will that make the weather better though?
Lots of amazing weather vanes there, Ross!
A few more to come yet
In and around the Vancouver area
The sailing boat is on a hut on the harbourside, and the horse is at a cafe half an hours drive out of the city and the two pics of the top of an old lighthouse which is exhibited outside the Maritime Museum,
Wow, Ross - that's a collection and a half!! I love the houseboat - it's really is a house on a boat But it's nic eto see all the 'local' images (bear, deer, eagle, skier, mountain) - I think that if they can't say something about the building (owner) itself, it should say something about the area.
Some more great ones Ross, like the ship in particular.
Cracking set there Ross. Love the Star Trek one
High up in a small ex colliery village called Burnhope hiding in a remote corner of the Durham Dales I found this rather cute cat n mouse vane last weekend
Brilliant, looks like a modern one, but great nonetheless.
Nice, and the strong letters make it really easy to see. I like it.
I think you're right Ross, nice addition to the thread.
Very unusual one, Ross!
I took a few pics of ones 'up north' especially for the site.
It will take a few days to sort out our pics though. We took nearly 500 each!
Nice vane - although very sensibly, the arrow is pointing AWAY from the angry-looking whale
Not one of mine but just spotted this on the trigpointinguk site.

Anyone got any idea why there is a weather vane on top of The Lawley hill in rural Shropshire??
Does seem a strange place, but I'm sure there's a reason.
"...Because they can..."
All I can find (as you said, Ross) is that it's a weather vane at the top of a hill called The Lawley, the suggestion being that it is a Crow, emblem of the Corbet family...
However, the slightly hooked beak and some finer features look more 'Chough' than 'Crow' to me, and as a marker to a summit in that bird's home area that would perhaps be more appropriate.
It certainly makes an interesting weather vane in a very unusual position anyway!
Anyone else noticed this one - on a tv programme trailer!
Its showing on SyFy for the new series of Haven.
heres a similar trailer, although this one is an American one - watch closely at the end and you can see the vane moving very slightly!
YouTube - Syfy HAVEN hd launch trailer 1
Nope, not spotted that - but it would be great if there really was one like that!
Yep, starts next week.
Sounds interesting... I'll look out for it when it come on terrestrial
I mentioned the bandstand in that earlier post - heres one of Carol's pictures showing the layout of the central square. The very decorative vane is obvious on top of the "bandstand" but there are two others in view as well. There are cafes all around so plenty of folks gawking at the weird folk photographing the roofs... The things I do for photos of weathervanes
