Is it a sociable Lapwing Vanellus gregarius ?
Is it a sociable Lapwing Vanellus gregarius ?
Looks more like a Golden Plover (Pluvialis apricaria)to me Beryl (possibly the American Golden Plover - Pluvialis dominica), don't think the bird you mention comes this far West.
I thought of a Golden Plover but he has the wrong coloured under side unless he's in a wintr coat
Whatever it is, it's a lovely picture of it
Golden Plover.
Pete.
Taking your word on this 'dig deep' wouldn't dream of doing otherwise. The Icterine is easily confused with Melodious as I (and Beryl) have proved and I'm blaming your photographs. However, for my part I concede to being wrong but if you're going to keep this up then I'm really looking forward to it.
Pete.
Yes, I will try to keep those questions coming as long as You guys will answer them.
So far I will use birds seen in Sweden and (just to be sure!) I like to have the answer in Latin as well. Then there will be no mix-ups
I am sorry. I forgot to post (to myself) the exact Latin name of this bird.
So You will have to wait until Monday
But don´t cry, I have a special montage that I will post here and now.
This is a nice pic of some common (often seen in Sweden) birds.
Try to name them !
Black Grouse - Tetrao tetrix
Ringed Plover - Charadrius hiaticula
Wren - Torglodytes troglodytes
Could be a Yellow Wagtail - Motacilla flava
The Goose/Swan I have no idea.
Black Grouse
Little-ringed Plover
Wren
Crane (possibly Demoiselle)
Don't know but not a UK species
Pete.
Ah, didn't think of Crane Pete, the beak didn't look long enough because of the photo angle.
Well done so far
Ljungpipare / European Golden Plover ( Pluvialis apricaria )
I must say that You are very good. Must find me a more seldome seen bird next
This time I think it will be harder for You
As usual need English and Latin name
Well, I think I better post the bird
Looks like a Snow Bunting Dig - Plectrophenax nivalis
And it; looks like a female ?
Snösparv Plectrophenax nivalis
Yes, still too easy ?
As I learn English bird name I think it is OK for You to see the Swedish name as well
Yes. I agree
This pic shows 2 birds, the not so common one is the right one.
They are kinds but not really the same family
Need to know(as usual) even the Latin name
Not sure that there is enough detail in the image to work out the second Gull Dig, although the first one looks like a Herring Gull (Larus argentatus).
The second one could be a Mediterranean (Larus melanocephalus) or Ring-billed Gull (Larus delawarensis)
The near one looks like a black headed gull juts losing it's summer coat
The second one looks like a herring gull or a common gull
Well, the second one is not what You suggested
So I let it stay for a while, let us see if we can get the right answer.
Iceland Gull- Larus glaucoides ?
I am told that You could see what bird it is by its head
It is not Iceland, as Beryl wrote, it is not a very good picture (so said even the photo underlining where I found it) Sorry, but it makes it a little harder for You guys here - so far I am impressed of Your knowledge
It's the beak that is baffling . I see masses of different gulls all the time but this ones seams to have a dark beak with a dark spot and most have a yellow beak with a red spot. Except the laughing gull which had a black beak. Secondly they have different coats for winter and summer. I can't tell if they are going into winter or coming out
Think I better give You a better picture of this bird
No idea I'm afraid Dig, not really too well into Gulls and can't find anything like it in my little book. It may not of course visit the UK.
Looks like the youngster of A yellow-legged Gull- Larus michahellis ?
Then I can´t supply the English name
Kaspisk trut Larus cachinnans
I´ll find a more common bird next
That is the Yellow Legged Gull Dig, also seems to be called Caspian Gull.
Kaspisk trut - Caspian Gull (Larus cachinnans)
So, let us go back in time. Summer
Here is a typical Swedish bird picture is from southern parts Skåne !
As per usual. English and Latin name please
Has to be a Golden Oriole Dig, Oriolus oriolus.
I've never seen one and they don't normally visit my part of the Country, but they are very striking.
The only one I didn't think of yet was looking at one today.
We must have posted about the yellow-legged gull at the same time Rolf
Have to agree with you here Rolf as I cannot think of anything else. Having said that I am in no way 100% convinced either you suggesting it and me agreeing is correct. The head appears in the pic no way uniform Yellow with the rest of the body plumage which is that colour in it's entirety except the wings and a small area of the tail which are black.
By the way, if it does turn out to be a Golden Oriole it's a male.
Pete.
Yes I agree. The female has a greener feathers than the male
Well done again Rolf
That was (again) a fast find Rolf
Sommargylling / Eurasian Golden-Oriole ( Oriolus oriolus )
and it was a male
Looks like an aristocratic bird
This bird was found on Öland a large island in the Baltic Sea, close to the coast (a loong bridge connects it to mainland)
Ahhh, a Goldcrest - Regulus regulus methinks. beautiful tiny bird.
