One of my very favourite garden birds has to be one of the tiniest.
I doubt if it weighs more - or is larger than - a Goldcrest, Firecrest or Wren, but it is such a bouncy little bird that it cannot be ignored.
Coal Tits were absent from the garden all through the winter, but recently one was sighted now and again - and this week we've even had two of them staying to feed (as long as the Blue Tit and Great Tit gang allow).
They come in the morning - to be chased away by their cousins! I know they are there when their 'Pee, pee, pee' cries rise to a frantic crescendo as they fight to get anywhere near the fatcake feeder.
In the afternoon they settle for peanuts mostly, and choose a feeder just away from their greedy relatives' reach. I hope to get closer pics of them soon - but for now I'm just pleased to see them!
