Need a hint ?
Need a hint ?
Nope, think I've found it, it's a Short-eared Owl, Latin name Asio flammeus.
Nice
Jorduggla Short-eared Owl Asio flammeus
Well done !
I can tell, by the weather, that it is Friday again
and a Friday Bird of course
Common Sandpiper - Actitis hypoleucos ?
(Had to look it up, so if it's not right, blame the RSPB ID pages!)
Of course it is a common bird
Drillsnäppa Common Sandpiper Actitis hypoleucos
Good finding-well done !
A sunny Monday and a sunny bird
Crumbs Chris, no idea at all what that is.
Well, You have (almost) the name in the picture name lol
Well, I know it's a Rose-coloured Starling - (Sturnus roseus) - because I was reading about those recently on Bird Guides!
Rose-coloured Starling (Sturnus roseus)
And yes, Crister, the 'ro' you've kindly left there does give a clue
Good to see that You helped Rolf out here
Rosenstare Rose-coloured Starling Sturnus roseus
We do have a few of them here in the Stockholm area !
Good finding
So, better start with a new one, no hints in the picture this time, don´t think You need that !
Never seen a bird like this one ??
Seen lots like it, but can't really pinpoint what brand of little brown bird it is. Could perhaps be a spotted Flycatcher, but doesn't have much of a visible eye ring.
I'm giving it a guess - so if that's ruled out it should be easier for Rolf to try!
Grasshopper Warbler - Locustella naevia ?
Well, think I better spill the beans
Grå flugsnappare Spotted Flycatcher Muscicapa striata
Well spotted Rolf, even if it was not that spotted
In Swedish we call it Gray Flycather, it is the bigger of them all but normally we just see the black and white one ( Svartvit flugsnappare European Pied Flycatcher Ficedula hypoleuca) I remember when I first saw their eggs, lovely blue color. (and small)
Well, didn't think it had a Warbler's bill, so lack of eye ring or not, Spotted Flycatcher it is!
Good guess, Rolf!
Of course, I've never seen one of those 'live' - so that's my excuse!
This Monday bird is a Tuesday bird as I was celebrating yesterday
This is a well known bird, You guys have other things to attend during summer ?
It's a member of the Plover family, I would say a Ringed Plover, Charadrius hiaticula, although the black tip to the beak is covered by sand.
Well done Maureen
Större strandpipare Common Ringed Plover Charadrius hiaticula
In Swedish it is called a greater plover
I see (to my horror) that I forgot to keep on asking
Sorry, this is a very bad picture but I am sure You will fix it !
Well I reckon it's a Buzzard, looks quite light in colour, so I'll go for Honey Buzzard. Pernis apivorus
Well done !
It is of course a Honey Buzzard. Pernis apivorus
In Swedish it is called Bivråk
So, back to Monday again
Here is one bird for You all !
Well, I have to guess as I think it's one of my favourite birds!
Little Egret -Egretta garzetta
Well I did answer yesterday but it is all gone now ??
You are, of course, right there In Swedish it is called Silkeshäger (from Silk)
Here is the next one, not that easy I think Could I have both birds please ??
BTW Have a great weekend, we celebrate the Midsummer here in Sweden so tomorrow is a no work day
Left hand bird is a Shoveler female (Anas clypeata) and not sure about the right hand one, could be perhaps a Blue-winged Teal (Anas discors).
Have a great weekend Chris, hope the weather is summer like.
Well done Rolf !
Blåvingad årta Blue-winged Teal Anas discors+
Skedand Northern Shoveler Anas clypeata
Weather looks rather good so I think it will be a great day to celebrate Midsummer (Since 1953 we always do the celebrating on a Friday)
Sounds like it just starts on the Friday, Crister - then goes on all weekend?
Enjoy the celebrations!
Monday morning, back to business
Not seen one before and don't get them here, but very striking, looks like a Barred Warbler - Sylvia nisoria.
Gosh! And I would have guessed it was a young Cuckoo!
So - glad I didn't!
(It looks as though it has been fired from a sling.)
LOL, that's what they do in Sweden Catherine and why they are so rare.
Not a slingshot
Höksångare Barred Warbler Sylvia nisoria
Well done Rolf
In Swedish we call it hawk singer
Weekend bird - I am free this Friday
Great Northern Diver - Gavia immer?
(And I am always free on Fridays! It's great being retired - apart from on pay days! Enjoy your day off, Crister!)
Not a bad guess
but No, it is not
So ---- it has to be a Black Throated Diver in winter plumage - Gavia arctica
Please!
I regret to inform You but I have no choice
It is not black throated (Maybe a little dirty)
Not many left now, are there?
