Default Wood Pigeon - Columba palumbus

For a number of reasons I thought that my nesting Wood Pigeons had been unsuccessful, but following the Robin through the tree I spotted a Wood Pigeon inside the branches doing a 'feed-me' bob. That might not have meant much but I could already see one on a visible branch and could see the movement of yet a third not far from the first one. This morning, when I saw on in the tree I didn't ignore it as I would normally and realised that it was a juvenile... with a second juvenile tucked further inside. They are ugly beggars!

    - but their mothers still love them!

We've got 4 young here just now - not as young as yours, but still without the white 'thumb mark' on either side of their necks.

Their father needs to leave their mother alone for a while - and she needs counselling!

Haven't seen many young around here, although I don't tend to look out as much as I should. They are no the most beautiful of young birds.

I wouldn't have spotted them normally, with so many adults out there I do tend to ignore them - it was only because I realised there were more than the usual 2 that I checked it out. But Catherine is right - Mum needs to discourage Dad ... he's constantly 'trying it on'
