So, back to Monday again and-of course-a Monday Bird
Not so easy I think......
So, back to Monday again and-of course-a Monday Bird
Not so easy I think......
Bar-tailed Godwit - Limosa lapponica
Well, I'll try Black-tailed Godwit - Limosa Limosa - don't know why!
With that upturned beak the only one I can find to match is the Terek Sandpiper - Xenus cinereus
Rolf, I've never heard of that one, but I guess you saw 'ter' at the corner of the pic?
(After Beryl posted, I decided to try the other Godwit just to stop you getting there first.
Anyway, how do you know that either Godwit could not have bent its beak when getting it stuck under a stone?)
The site hung and it's gone . I was saying the black tailed godwit has a straight beak and the Bar-tailed godwit has a turned up beak
The Terek Sandpiper is rare in Britain. Theyisvery similar in looks to the Bar-tailed godwit
Hmm, I saved this bird before I did notice that You guys also read the name of the .jpg and started to find a bird with a similar name
I will try to remember to avoid doing that in the future.
Anyway; Tereksnäppa Terek SandpiperXenus cinereus
Not that common in Sweden as well Chocky !
Here´s to You, my Sherlock friends
This one looks like a Long-tailed Skua - Stercorarius longicaudus.
In fact, it is
Fjällabb Long-tailed Skua Stercorarius longicaudus
Mostly seen in higher places, the Swedish "Alps"
Have this nice little bird here
I'll take a stab at Scarlet Rosefinch - Carpodacus erythrinus.
I was just about to type that I didn't agree.. then I realised that the "Common Rosefinch" as I was going to say had the same latin name
Then it is settled
Rosenfink Common Rosefinch Carpodacus erythrinus
Same name with a twist in spelling (the Swedish name I mean)
Think You can see one of this birds if You walk in the forrest
Song Thrush (Turdus philomelos)
Good guess but I must say no !
Tree Pipit, Anthus trivialis,
Closer but still a no !
Rock Pipit, Anthus petrosus,
Meadow Pipit - Anthus pratensis?
and we have a winner
Ängspiplärka Meadow Pipit Anthus pratensis
Not that easy, well done !
Boy has it been hot her today !!!!! 31C just outside my door.
Anyway I did managed to get a bird for You all
I think it's a Kestrel - Falco tinnunculus
(Though it does look as if it has a shorter tail.... )
Lesser Kestrel (Falco naumanni)
Yes, it is a Kestrel and -like Chocky said - it is a
Rödfalk Lesser Kestrel Falco naumanni
Well done
Ok then - well done, Beryl!
(But don't I get half a point for my guess... or even a QUARTER....?)
I'll share it with you Catherine. I love sharing
It hasn't quite the menacing look of the Kestrel Some how
You are very kind, Beryl! (I should have gone with my instincts and Googled for other types though, so don't really deserve it...... )
Yes, it is easy to fix things afterwards
Anyhow, here is a new fresh bird, awaiting Your clever answers
Whitethroat - Sylvia communis
Tail looks a little short for a Whitethroat, beak not big enough for a Reed Warbler, so I'll have a punt on Marsh Warbler - Acrocephalus palustris.
So, all system is Go!
Kärrsångare Marsh Warbler Acrocephalus palustris
Nice picture, nice bird and (as always) well done
This time I will post 2 pictures, just to make it easier for You
Well to me it looks like a Wren - Troglodytes troglodytes
Gärdsmyg Winter Wren Troglodytes troglodytes
Well done
Hungry kids !
