Well there hasnt been much wind up here the last couple of weeks but it definitely seems to be moving around now.

That's a vane and a half.
I present the very first teacup weather vane on the list
Spotted on a privately operated service station on the A90 north of Dundee....
Nice one Ross.

Nice idea - makes people thirsty so they stop to have a cuppa as well.
Great advertising gimic!
In recent years Ive added some international weather vanes after our assorted trips abroad. Here I can now add Poland to our list of international venues on the thread
These two are both from the lovely village of Zakopane in the Polish Tatras mountains
Very similar in style, so I guess that is/was the Polish standard weather vane pattern?
Does that first one read '2001'?
I'm thinking that might have been the date of the building....
Like them, nice to see different national styles.
More Polish vanes from around Krakow
I reckon there are at least 7 visible on the left tower pinnacles.
And 8 for the price of 1
7 on the Barbican in the foreground and one on the tower on the city walls behind
And a closeup of the pennant on the tower in the previous picture
I particularly like that last one. Fantastic buildings!
(It's a bit confusing in the other pics as all vanes are not registering the same wind direction! Tghere's an odd one out in the second pic. I guess it has rusted or just stuck.)
Don't think this one has featured before - the weather vane atop the Sailing Club at Priory Quay, Christchurch.
That's a cracker Catherine.
Back in the Pennines last weekend. Heres a steam loco vane on the locomotive shed of the narrow gauge South Tynedale Railway in Alston. A bit difficult to see as its against the trees but we havent had this one before.
Unfortunately getting a better background to the pic would mean trespassing on the railway.....
Taken from a moving train!
And heres a corker from Appleby in Westmorland. There are 2 of these, one at each end of the main street. The post doubles as a sun dial and a weather vane. And has an inspirational message on one side too.
Its hard to read on the compressed pic but the inscription reads
Retain your Loyalty
Preserve your Rights
Near Dufton now, and a superb home made one!
Its made from bicycle parts!
How do I know its home made?
Because round the back were 4 more! All for sale as a cottage industry
Left to right there on the wider angle picture
Man on a penny farthing
cyclist towing a child behind
quad bike
man relaxing fishing
One last one, taken on a filthy wet Sunday afternoon, and this time Im in Brampton. And I find what is a rather nice old building in the middle of the old market square.
The pcut out on the pennant looks like its got a lion or something similar on it.
Well done Ross, some crackers there, love the home made ones.
Cockenzie church (east of Edinburgh) and a rather spectacular sailing ship of some sort. Anyone know their ships well enough to identify the type?
That's a nice one Ross, looks like an Arab Dhow.
Here's one on a Care home in Beaconsfield, love the way they've ruined the tower with a dish and aerial, lots of other much less conspicuous places to install them.
Its a steam loco
Seen on one of the buildings 5 minutes walk from the Railway Museum in York

Superb, Ross! I know a lot of people who'd like one like that on their garden shed!
Just spotted this playful tiger vane on a programme about Siberian tigers on Eden
Love it! Makes me smile!
Building on corner of station road, taken with mobile, so not the best quality.
Recently back from travels in unusual places so here the solitary wind vane I found in coastal Montenegro!
rolf (16-08-2015)
Sadly I didnt see any whilst on a day trip to Albania!
Some people do get around, Ross!
Love the weather vane in Montenegro! Wonder what species of bird it is? Could it be their national emblem?
Yes I get around - we like visiting places off the beaten track
Its probably an eagle of some sort - the flag has a double headed eagle on it

Definitely an Eagle, great shot Ross.
First weather vane from Madeira - taken in April this year. Its at Funchal Yacht Club.

October 2016 I was in Prague for a few days. Not many vanes seen but I did spot this one, so here are the first Czech vanes on the thread
Some of them have seen better days - the "flags" have fallen off!

Eight in one shot! Pretty good going, Ross. Can't beat that!
They look very like ones I saw in Holland.
Wow, that's a lot of vanes.
