Progress report of the new hide by the Lodden at Lea Farm. It's good for bird watchers, not shure about photographers
That looks good.
Hides aren't really made for photographers
We had one along the Exe estuary but kids vandalized it and then burnt it down

Looks good Alan, why do you say not good for photographers, too far from the birds, or bad port design?
Rolf,
It's high up so many pictures would look down on their subject, It will take time to establish. This area is bril for birds of prey. time will tell, with luck I'm wrong.
Alan
Oh well, it'll be interesting to see how it turns out. As a matter of interest, the Friends of Lavell's Lake site is back up and I've filled out their membership form, which tells you to set up a standing order or pay by paypal, but no form materialises.
Rolf,
I picked up a leaflet from the Bittern hide
Alan
You're just so fussy Alan, sit underneath it - you might lose the odd finger to frost bite, at least it would keep the rain off
What a great idea Louise, I'll put my portable hide under it. I could loose a finger to a pike.
Alan
Well there you go, Alan - giving something back to nature at the same time
HI alan I am new to birding and photography, I am currently looking for a portable hide are you happy with your model and which model is it? I went to lavells last friday with normal hiking boots on, but couldnt get to the hide the water was everywhere. ps I also live in BZ. regards mike
Mike,
Small hides start at about £40-£100 cramped for 2. Larger £150 more room for 2 people. some makes: Pop up dog house hide: £100 Stealth 360 £150 one of the best.
Camouflage easy up outdoor I think £40: Brick house £ 159
Doing this from memory so may not be accurate. You'll find them all on the internet, some made in America so availibility not good. There is also e-bay.
Some of my friends have used portable hides at Lavells. but Have stopped at the moment because of complaints.
Taking Kingfisher pics with my 70-400 I need a portable hide. Lavells from the Teal hide is 20m to the perch, too far for good pics. My picture at Fleet Pond from port hide was 8.5 m. Perhaps we could get together some time.
Hope you find this helpful
Regards
Alan
I've got the stealth Gear 2 man hide, nice piece of kit, although I've hardly used it.
after due contemplation, decided on the american single person @ £87. for my first try at a hide. will keep you all posted as to the convenience etc in due coarse. regards mike
Certainly lighter to carry Mike, the only reason I got the two man version, was to have somewhere to put my camera bag and other bits and pieces when using it.
Oh Rolf. I meant in general Hides aren't good for photographers because they are usually too far back.
Sorry. It wasn't a criticism
LOL, wasn't responding to that Beryl, I knew you were referring to permanent hides.
Oh right. was just a bit worried but lookink back now I see you were in fact talking to Alan
