Some lovely photos, Philip! Thanks for sharing them!

They bring back so many memories - not just of travelling though the Cevennes so many years ago - but of a particularly amazing holiday in a gite on the eastern Lot Valley near there. The gorges, farming, farm buildings and countryside are quite similar.

The second last pic, is that a type of Swallowtail Butterfly? (I see there's one called a Zebra Swallowtail...?)

    Love the Wagtails!

Hi Catherine, have checked on internet and id say it one of the Tiger Swallowtails. as they have blue rather than red spots. There are 3 pictures of them shown tho the other 2 are front views. The one u mention has damage on its tail. Maybe from a Bird, thinking the spots are eyes has tried to grab it by the head, and the Butterfly has escaped. Hence name Swallow-Tail.
Cevennes is Massive and Magical and at this time of year, one can drive for hours and not see another car! Great for Safari type holiday on the move.

Think the Swallowtail is the Scarce Swallowtail, just about making an appearance in Cernay now, saw a couple yesterday.

Looks like a great place to visit Philip.
