I think all three of these are on a Christmas CD we're playing in the car this week. I didn't like the harsh sound of The Pogues' one - until Glen explained what it was all about! (Now I listen to the words!)

MY favourites? Will have to think a bit, but I know 'White Christmas' would be one of them, with perhaps 'Stille Nacht' being another. Had I to pick a third, it might be a carol I learned as a child at school, 'Snowy flakes are falling softly' - not just because it conjures up scenes of a 'world in white', but as it reminds me of Christmas when very young, the huge, wonderfully fragrant fir tree which sat on the 'elephant table' in the drawing room, and the paper dolls which my father made as decorations.

That was lovely, Crister. I remember singing that song as 'Santa Lucia' when I was young - what a memory!

(Not sure if we'd be allowed to crown someone with lighted candles here - 'Health and Safety' would probably stop that!)

Olympus Evolt E520, and borrowed lenses and flash. Fuji Finepix S7000 for Macro A chair :)

I remember first seeing the candle crowns on an old, foreign children's programme, probably "Belle & Sebastian". I always thought that the "Santa Lucia" was even more lovely with the candles.

I am unsure I could really narrow it down to 3, but I will go with Greg Lake's "I believe in Father Christmas", Wizzard's "I wish it could be Christmas everyday " and the carol "Coventry Carol" which I think is beautiful and haunting. It's best sung by a lone female and either acapella or a single instrument.
