    Default water bird id needed please

    i was visiting my son in the midlands and went out with the camera to take pics when i saw this beautiful duck , but have not a clue what it is help! im not avid watcher in fact know little except obvious birds, so can anyone id this please.

    Hi Gail, welcome to the forum. Looks like a hybrid of some sort, certainly not a native duck and not any species that I recognise. The colours are pretty extreme, must have been bred for those colours.

    Looks like the Black East indies duck . They have a iridescent Black / green colour. Here are some I uploaded a couple os weeks ago

    hi thanks for replies i thought this at first when i did a bit of poking around,this bird is now solved thanks to an email i recieved its a cayuga duck apparently this is from someone who breeds them. for anyone interested heres a few sites

    Yes. They have the dark beak an not so iridescent . Well done

    yes chocky seems they can be more so in summer when sun shining which i think whats happened when i took this picture. still a good result thanks to everyone for their help
