    Default Common Snipe (Gallinago gallinago)

    Another one from Leighton Moss. This little critter was wandering around a few feet in front of one of the hides so we were getting superb views. Previously the only times Ive seen one Ive flushed it when out walking and only seen it zooming off into the distance!

    I think its camouflage from the plumage is fabulous - even at a few feet I had difficulty finding it again if I took my eyes off it for a few seconds to scan the horizon.

    Yep, amazing camouflage, great that they come so close to the hide.

    Looking at the un-enlarged shots, it doesn't look like there are any birds there, they do have great camouflage. But how wonderful that you got a poser.
