I have never seen before in Israel

Spotted this on my recent travels to Israel, it was on Kibbutz Ketura in the Arava Desert overlooking the Jordan Valley. Wanted to record its motion but my camera was playing up. With the length of the legs I would have said a wader of some sort, but there could be no wading where this was, as you can see for the 2nd and 3rd photographs

It's a spur winged Lapwing Neil. Vanellus spinosus

OK thanks for that Rolf, what would be the benefit of those long legs then?

Also I wonder what attracted it to the area, I must admit going to Israel in winter you see a lot more birds than in the scorching summer 45+ C every day in summer
