Over the last week or 2 all I seem to see is birds in pairs - Robin, Blackbird, Dunnock, Blue Tit. This morning when I opened the front door I was regaled by the frantic chatter of 8 Sparrows having a little dispute ( with a few ladies watching on saying "Stop it Barry, he's not worth it!"), followed by a pair of Screeching male Blackbirds having a territory dispute about 10 feet away.
I may well have a Blackbird nest in my garden this year as they made one last year then gave up on it to move elsewhere (well, the same spot, just on the neighbours side!), but there is normally one up in the neighbours tall Fir.... which was cut down a week or 2 ago There aren't too many suitable spots here in suburbia... Mind you, I could have cried when I realised they were cutting down the tree. I am not a great fan of Firs, but it is always a Blackbird nest-site, and some other small birds that I've never been able to catch well enough to identify. A few days after the felling I was watching a Blackbird in the bush at the end of the garden, he got spooked, flew off to the tree, realised it wasn't there and wheeled about and back to the bush Not only that, but it lowers the 'skyline' to fence-height, and means that all I can see now when I look out is houses.. boring
