Default Murals on buildings (not Graffiti art)

Spotted this beautiful Mural today in Exeter. I have seen several of these out on the walls of large houses and thought they could be a good subject of observation.

I agree, that's a cracker Beryl, haven't seen many, but will keep an eye out.

There is a nice one in Chartres, I'll dig out the photo.

    Thanks Rolf
I used to see one on a journey I did as a Wren staff car driver.I think it was at Gosport Hant's. Never took a photo. When I saw this one today it brought it all back and I have seen quite a few The is one some where of a fairy tale. Might be at Bromley. I hope to be going there at the end of August for a holiday

The equipment I use is a Canon 30D with Sigma 50-500mm lens. I also have a garden hide from which I take most of my pictures.

Found this mural in the subway Under the Exmouth main street. Painted by members of the prince's trust, it spans the length of the subway on both side. I could only capture a small part of it

Nice idea - although I'm not too sure there are many here in Reading. There was one I used to see in Brixton about Mary Seacole, a lauded black heroine who basically did what Florence Nightingale did.. just moreso and without the publicity.

There is a major one on the corner of London street and the IDR Louise (opposite the Oracle), trouble is, I'm always in the van when passing it.

You got me thinking there Beryl, I remembered seeing a mural in Jerusalem I think it was, we were going to a Yemenite restaurant and spotted this on the way, was through a car windscreen with blue shading at the top

These are really great and I enjoyed seeing them, I also agree 'Murals not graffiti art'.

This is the only pic I ever took of graffiti and I did so to illustrate how FOUL the work really is. This one is under an old railway bridge, now part of a beautiful coastal path/walk and completely ruins the beauty of the old bridge as you pass under it.

    Great mural there neil Fantastic.
One needs just to look. It's beautiful where graffiti is completely different and to me not art.
Yes Pete I think graffiti it is vandalizing.

Hope we can find some more Murals

    Default French Bridges

These are on the sides of the bridges as you go south from the Channel Tunnel. Not very clear, since you are passing at speed!

They each represent something of the area. I'm not sure what the second one is, but the first is showing pottery kilns as that part is known for its 'Faience' pottery. Further on they have a series of statues on the top with a series of sports poses (including an archer) - but I didn't get the focus on any of them.

That water tower is fantastic - we really should have more murals on work-a-day things. As for the one by the road - maybe I should stirs my stumps and get it myself. I will be out shortly so may just go and take a snap today.

Here is a nice Mural drawn by children.Probably copied and painted by the council from childcare's paper work. It's a long stretch of wall at the end of the cycle track at Lympstone and it s rather lovely . Unfortunately the mural on the other side of farms yard animals has been completely deface with Graffiti by yobs with nothing better to do
The second photo is taken from the other direction and is a close up.
Taken with my one as it was all to close for my DSLR

    Default Burnley

Had to go 10 miles to Burnley on Tuesday to verify my identity to the recruitment agency and let them keep a copy (was not happy about that) of my passport, before I could have an interview on Wednesday. On my travels searching for the pocksy little shop I saw this, sorry poor quality was with my mobile phone

I have decided I hate this country where the citizens are required to prove they are genuine all because the government couldn't be bothered to police the influx into the country

Found this 3D mural in Exeter yesterday. Not a good pic as it was belting with rain. Taken with my Phone

Very interesting, Beryl! I'm wondering who he/she is...

I'm looking at the castle behind him/her and assuming there is obviously some religious significance there because of the halo.

    - Right, just found this;
Sidwella was the daughter of a Celtic nobleman, Benna who was murdered by pagan Saxon reapers complete with their scythes outside the east wall of the city around 740 AD. The east gate was situated at the top of High Street, more of which later. A church was built on the site of the murder and this became a shrine. The 14th century east window in the cathedral depicts St Sidwella together with her symbols, those of a well and scythe. These are also depicted on the second level of the large shop frontages to the left of the church. Legend says that a spring gushed from the ground at her death. A well at this site did in fact provide water until the late 19th century for Cathedral Close.

I guess it could be Sidwella then!

(There seem to be many murals in Exeter, which has an amazing history. Have never spent time in it as when we last passed it in 1976 the town was synonymous with traffic jams! Is it OK now?)

This is on the side of an arts centre in Reading. They do all sorts of stuff from Salsa Dancing and stand-up comedy to films. It's a pity that the neighbours keep their bins there I've included a shot from the front of the building for interest as it is listed and was apparently originally used as a 'temperence' buliding - quite ironic since it now houses a well-frequented bar

The third piccie is actually grafitti, not a proper mural, but I thought that it deserved a showing, especially since it's actually unseeable. I just spotted the top of it and got it by holding the camera up over the top of the wall to be able to see what it was. It's right by the 'Rising Sun', over the wall that you can just see starting to the right of the proper Mural.

Couldn't place that for a moment, of course there's another Rising Sun at the Forbury.

Like the Dragon picture, shame the muppets have spoiled part of it.
