Thread: Herring or Lesser Black-backed Gull?

    Default Herring or Lesser Black-backed Gull?

    I'm now leaning towards Herring Gull, but I find them very difficult to tell apart. Whichever one it is, it is obviously a first winter bird, really stood out on its own amongst the Black-headed Gulls.

    Difficult to tell as the Lesser and Great juveniles both look similar.

    Yes. The great is massive. I think it's aherring gull as the lesser has a lighter head .Not 100% though

    I'd go for Herring Gull too.

    He's quite like this second winter one which landed on our garage in Ayr, isn't he?
