Tawny Owls

Well, I was walking long the Nature Trail at Martin Mere near Kingfisher Hide when I heard a Thrush above. I managed to spot and carried on walking and I decided to have one last look back up into the tree to see if I could get a decent pic when I spotted four pair of eyes looking at me. an adult Tawny Owl and Juvenile. After a few minutes the adult swooped down to near enough the floor and proceeded to fly away from me. The juvenile didn't move so managed to get some pics of it. The first one shows the adult with the juvenile bottom left of it and the second the juvenile. Apologies for the poor quality of the pics.

Cracking Babs, I've never seen an Owl in daylight.

I hadn't either until today, there was nobody else about but me and these two owls, I waited around and then pointed it out to people who walked by and I rang greg. I checked the board back at the centre and only the short eared owl and the barn owl were on the board so I got one of the staff to identify it from my photos and they said they would put the pair on their sightings board. thanks to you and chocky for your comments, tell you what all the time I was watching the juvenile which was for about half an hour it never took it's eyes off me

The juvenile never took its eyes off me......obviously knows a good thing when it sees it Babs.

Didn't you hear mention of a Golden Oriole there on Friday or Saturday I think Babs, but not since.

Yes Pete, I did read about the Golden Oriole it's on the Martin Mere website.

saw a Pied Wagtail juvenile, I had never seen one before
