He may not look as beautiful as many other waders, yet he is a tough little package, well designed for the job in hand.
I'd not heard of a Knot before - their Latin name is apparently "Calidris canuta" - they must do a King Canute and try to stop the tide coming in I do think that the RSPB description is a bit mean, though "The knot is a dumpy, short-legged, stocky wading bird" - it makes it sound so unattractive, but it's really rather pretty.
