I have only seen a Tawny owl and I didn't know how to use my camera then so it is a distant capture .

this is my third attempt at this post. for some reason when i pressed submit i was told to re-log on. when i did this i lost my post (twice).
anyway i'll try again. most winters long eared owls roost at marton mere blackpool. the mere is at the heart of a caravan site and is reed edged with about 5 hides. to the rear of the mere is a golfcourse and between the two is a line of scrub/bush. it is here the owls roost. the number of owls varies from time to time. usually there is 3/5 owls, although i once counted 14 in one spot. they seem to favour one spot to roost. they sit about 15/20 feet from a path in deep scrub. although they are very close, if you don't know exactly where to look you may never spot them. i once stood looking at one for ages only to realise a further couple of owls were within a few feet!!
there is usually someone about to point them out to you.
other noteworthy birds include bittern , waterail, reed warbler and various ducks and gulls.... not long now til' i can go to see the owls again.
