I think the first two are the female they are the same one at different angles and the third pic (a different one near by ) is a male.

This year looks set to be a disaster for butterflies. The best I have seen - with a struggle - have been one or two Large and Small Heath, and the other day I saw a Large Skipper......this is becoming serious.

Down here the council is more interested in shaving every thing to the ground so it looks neat for the summer visitors. This is a holiday town . Nothing for the residents in the winter, never mind Wrens and Robins who build there nest close to the ground or the butterflies. The banks of the brook a not just trimmed but shaven so no butterflies along there same along the estuary.

Have found these all to be males will look out for the female apparently she is lighter
