    Default Perhaps Smooth Snake?

    Posted this on another site, thinking it may have been a young Adder as it was quite small - and I felt there was a hint of a diamond shape appearing on its back.

    However, the consensus of op. there was that it was a Smooth Snake. Any opinions here?

    (It was at Longslade Bottom in the New Forest.)

    Yes definitely a Smooth snake Catherine, quite rare now I believe. The first is a good shot and should go in the Gallery.

    Ooooooooo - gallery pic by ME?

    I'll send it to you by email, Rolf - so you can 'adjust' the quality with one of your magic programmes first!

    [Can't believe that when Glen saw me taking its pic he said, 'Oh, well, you've got it so there's no point in me taking it too!' - because it would have been GREAT if he'd only used his camera then.]

    Thanks again, Rolf for your confirmation here!

    Got this email the other day;

    There is no doubt that this is a smooth snake, a nice largish one by the looks of it (they do not grow large). Rare to see them so much in the open! Any chance you could let me know the grid reference for your sighting? We'd like to record it in our database!

    Cheers,
    John.

    Have just found this info on Sky News today;

    Snakes Alive - Smooth Reptile Reintroduced To Devon | UK News | Sky News

    So you might want to get hunting them down with your camera soon, Beryl!

    It's not a poisonous one, Beryl - so you're all right!
