    Captured this today April 1st 2008 along the Exe Estuary. First one I have seen this year.

    The equipment I use is a Canon 30D with Sigma 50-500mm lens. I also have a garden hide from which I take most of my pictures.

    Yes, nice picture Beryl.

    Must have been a far better day today where you are than where I am. I was 'out and about' for five hours and in exposed (on the coast) places could have been blown over by a strong wind. Not a cat in 'you know where' chance of seeing a butterfly.

    Actually the wind was blowing a real Hooley even blew my camera about but it was a mild wind. I was most surprised to see a butterfly. I saw a Yellow yesterday but it was gone as fast as it came. Not sure if it was a pale clouded or a white that looked yellow it was so fast.

    If you notice me ever giving a 'positive' comment on this website Beryl, I promise you it isn't because I'm being a 'clever clogs' but it's because I'm stating a fact, and your butterfly today wouldn't have been a Clouded Yellow.

    Incidentally, last year was not a good one for this species of butterfly so here's hoping for better results this year.

    No. It was too small for a clouded , it was more like a Brimstone Moth. I saw a few today but they would not keep still. Got one with it's wings closed. I can't be sure , it was the sise of a Brimstone moth. I know they fly by day.
    I don't for one minute regard any one as a clever clogs . I'm only too happy to be correcte if I get it wrong.
    Incidentally April and may are the two months that he Orange tip flies isn't it ?

    I normally see them in abundance over at my sister's place and that is always end of April to early May.

    Oh . Right so we can start watching out for them. It is milder down here and we get one or two that other parts of the country don't get , like the Jersey Tiger Moth it is indigenous to the south west and southern Europe although I have read that some one has tried to introduce them to the London area These moths fly in august
