Default Lily Beetle - Lilioceris lilii

A stunning creature, it's not been in my garden for a while as I got rid of my lilies due to the danger for cats from the pollen. I know that they are a real pest, but I couldn't help smiling whenever I found one - they are such stunning creatures!

I had to pick it up as it was a very breezy day and it was swinging about in the wind too much

I'm sure it enjoyed being 'rescued', Louise!

Wonderful shots - great definition and detail of a tiny, but none-the-less brilliantly engineered insect!

What good shots. How did you hold the camera in one hand with any shake?

I'm sure that first shot would do well in any competition!

Have you thought of adding it to 'Summerwatch' on Flickr?

I would if it were mine!

Joe - I have no idea - I don't normally do very well with the one-handed shot, but I'me ever the optimist and keep trying. What really amazes me is that I succeeded with wind as well ( I mean - the wind was blowing!! )

Catherine - I didn't know about it, although to be honest I rarely consider anything like that - there just seem to be too many people taking much better shots.... But I may well take a look
