Cattle Egret- Bubulcus ibis

On passing by a farm on the Eat Devon way which runs along side the Exe estuary I cam across a field with Cattle and there too in the field were several Cattle Egret. These are closely related to the Egret family and are often called white Herons. This is the only Egret that does not feed on fish . It feeds on insect turned up and disturbed by the hooves of cattle mainly and freshly plowed fields.
These are in their winter coats. In the summer they have buff coloured heads and breasts. They have yellow stubby beaks
