Caught this one sunbathing on a leaf
Nice captures Joe
Have sent you a PM
Nice one Joe, they are normally very shy.
Nice shots there - well spotted.. and a snack for later in the second one ?
I think it may be a grass snake - a slow worm has a 'bullet shaped' head that just looks like the body has tapered off, and doesn't have any extra markings like the pale and black bits behind the head... I think. But I'm sure Rolf will know. But I do think it could go into the gallery as it's a nice clear shot.
Thanks to all of you. I stand corrected but will plead ignorance my knowledge of snakes and slow worms is very limited.
Yours and mine both Joe, had to look it up.
As Louise says, we should have one of them in the gallery, perhaps the last one.
I don't know much about snakes either, but since we only 3 sorts (and slow worms), and I know what a slow worm looks like, that an Adder has a V on its head, and that Smooth Snakes are fairly rare and shy, I didn't have much to choose from .. so I'm not being that clever - and I've learned masses from being on here.
I would imagine that this is a young one as it was only about 6-8 inches long
We used to have slow worms in our garden and the boys used to bring them home.
They are protected now, from being killed, injured or sold. That is how I knew straight away.
Any way again . Lovely captures of the grass snake
You are so lucky - I haven't seen a snake in years.
Worked with a few though.
Fantastic shots, Joe!
Well done!
