Hop-a-long Black-tailed Godwit

This black-tailed Godwit seemingly hurt his leg or claws any how he was better and able to run once out of the water

I was rather worried at first and then suddenly he hops out of the water and races around like a road runner.

I reckon he had cramp in the other leg.

i've seen this behaviour many times before. it's just something they do!!
not sure why, but it seems to be a common practice.
someone once said to me..' do you know why they stand on one leg?'
when i said 'i don't know'
they said..' well, if they took that one up aswell, they'd fall over!!!'

Lol. Our PE teacher said that to our class (Hundreds of years ago now) She said "stand on one leg and lift the other one up" Old clever clogs here was the only one who wasn't hopping.
I'll have to to try and find out why they do this.
No one knows either why the kingfisher bobs up and down

talking of legs... i was once looking at literally thousands of oystercatchers,in morecambe bay, when i turned to another birder present. i said to him,'' i wonder how they count such a large number of birds?''. without batting an eyelid the man said,''they count their legs and divide by two!!''
i must admit, that tickled me!!

I wonder if that is that how they count the starlings?
