I was waiting for someone to pull the lever and try to fill it up with coal!

I presume that there must still be steam engines there Ross, as the hopper is full of coal, is this a private siding?

Yes lots of steam trains there - the coal stage is in the workshop / museum area which you can get to on footpaths to have a look at. The NYMR is well worth a visit if you are in that area
