Linnet flock at Milford

When walking along the Spit towards Hurst Castle, we watched a flock of (20 to 30) small birds land amongst the seeding plants on the flint slope.

I thought they were just House Sparrows, but when we looked at the pics afterwards we realised they were Linnets. There are a lot in the area between there and Keyhaven.

Nice- it just shows that it pays to take shots - just in case Where they 'playing' about a lot ?

I love those spirally stems - they look great.

They were feeding on the seeds of the various plants on the gravel slope, Louise.

I think these 'spirally stems' are the seed pods of the Yellow Horned Poppy; Yellow horned-poppy - Glaucium flavum - Natural England

Oh, aren't they lovely? The poppy is a lovely family isn't it? Mum's got some big Oriental Poppies and I have some delicate Californian poppies - quite a difference but all lovely.
