I have never seen Canadian Geese resting like this with it's wings slightly spread

No neither have I Babs. Worth asking questions in the right quarters about this unusual behaviour.

Thanks Beryl, Yes I will do that Pete I thought maybe it had young under it's wings but there was only one I could see

I would say the 'young under the wing' theory is about right here Babs. It did cross my mind when I looked at this image yesterday. Look no further I would suggest on this unless someone can come up with a more convincing suggestion/answer.
