Spotted this this one on the beach and in the harbour on Sark (they are 2 differnt birds but I think they are the same species. They are about the same size as a mature shelduck.
The last one looks like a Juvenile Muscovy Duck
Yep, I think you are right there Beryl, A piebald Muscovy Duck
I think they may all be . But because the are scrunched up it is hard to tell But the shape of the red areas round the eye certainly look like Muscovy
This may help
Yes, they're definitely Muscovy Ducks - like these at our local pond.
They love to slow down the traffic by crossing the main road into town (from the Forest) They are prey to the many Foxes in the woods too.
Thank you all for giving me an ID for this one. I'll have to buy a book with the muscovy duck in it. I suppose that these ducks are escapees like the wood duck and mandarins.
Joe, I don't often provide links to Wikipedia, but I think it's story is documented fairly well here!
Muscovy Duck - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
To most, they're not the most beautiful of birds - unless you're another Muscovy Duck of course.
They may not have the standard beauty but I like the ;look of them. Mind you, I didn't now that they were so often deemed as 'nuisance' when feral.
Thank you for the link Catherine. As soon as the ID was known I googled it andfound the Wikipedia page very informative. I had some friends with me and we were all puzzled by it. I've let them know the ID.
