The Japanese tsunami killed thousands of albatrosses and other species when it struck a nature sanctuary on Midway atoll, northwest of Hawaii.

That is SO sad - and Hawaii was given early warning too. Apart from those bids too young to fly off, I'm wondering if others were enclosed in covered pens so didn't have the chance to fly off.

Hadn't thought about the fish having problems, but I guess many were either washed inland to die, or dashed to bits against rocks or just mangled by the waves.

I hope lessons will have been learned re. wildlife in such situations as well.
