    Default Crosby Beach

The now permanent home of Gormley's 100 cast iron statues. I cannot say they grab me but they do look better covered in barnacles. Plenty of jellyfish and razor shells to go with. The amount of debris on the beach made me wonder if a big tanker had been clearing off the barnacles just off shore

Interesting shots Neil, not sure about the statues, but I guess some people like them.

    I like them.
The installation is called "Another Place". I think that the point is to show man's place in nature - he stands there trying to stay in one place whilst nature is ebbing and flowing around him (sometimes leaving him in the open, at other times covering him in water), and of the course the metal of which they are made corrodes and rusts and so changes in time. Of course, I could be wrong...

Unfortunately there are far too many opportunities for the various councils to fund too many hair brained schemes in all parts of the country. We had the yellow banana scandal (I'll see if I can find info) about 15 years ago, and since had a multimillion pound street project on Church Street using granite balls. It was only in place 18 months before it was removed to start demolition of the buildings on that street to make way for a new market hall and shops, what a waste of taxpayers money.
