Jackdaw - Corvus monedula

Up on a Gasometer in East Reading ( I assume that's what it is - I'm not an expert on large metal structures ) I spotted a black bird. I took a couple of shots and was surprised to find a second bird when I went into the photo, I assume nesting.

I added a shot of the structure from a distance. I don't know what it is about them, but I do like them - they seem so useless (how do they work?), but make such a lovely tracery in the sky - especially at dusk.

They fill them with Gas, which makes the container rise in the frame under the pressure and expand the storage area, so sometimes when full, it'll be right up to the top.

Aah - I should have thought of that, it makes sense :-)

Here's a photo I took from Liverpool Road, these are a different design, but work on the same principle.
