Friendly Robin

As we walked up to a hide at Leighton Moss today we found this little Robin waiting on a log for us. Luckily I had a bit of seed in my pocket and held some out on my hand straight away this little Robin flew to my hand to eat the seed. The pics are not brilliant but he was also very happy to pose for shots off the hand

Thankyou Chocky and rolf, this wasn't the only friendly Robin at the reserve they were everywhere. I couldn't believe it when he flew to me hand I had only just taken my hand out of my pocket and I didn't have to invite him. He stayed on my hand for quite a while eating the seed. absolutely belting pics babs, a robin ate from my sons hand there too . he gave me some stick cos' it ate from him and not me!! anyway we are off to leighton moss on tuesday. taking my youngest son and my grandson.....he loves the hot chocolate in the visitors centre cafe!!!

Lovely food in the cafe isn't it, I had the home made mushroom soup very nice, I had been looking forward to the breakfast but they stopped serving that at 12 noon.

We had a fabulous morning there andy, managed to see a bittern but it was across the lake and behind the reeds but I got a look at it through Greg's scope. It's funny but each time we went into the hides we just keep managing to miss them. One we missed was apparantley doing the splits on the ice. Not sure how many they have there but I hope you managed to see one.

A bearded tit was spotted on the grit table, we manged to see goldcrest on the way back from lower hide.

the weather was absolutely stunning babs, thanks.... infact it was too good for the birdwatching. everything was completely frozen over. there was'nt much present birdwise. though we got a couple of little egrets sat in a tree near jackson hide, a couple of buzzards and a few snipe. woodland birds were more obliging, with bullfinches , treecreepers and nuthatches being the highlights. we went into grisedale hide and a tame robin was sat inside the hide!! it fleetingly came to my son, toms', hand ... who knows this could be the one that ate out of your hand a few days earlier!?
after a delicious hot chocolate we then had a walk around woodwell and then down to the shore in silverdale.
