Nice one Joe, Chaffinches don't seem to be able to perch too successfully on that type of feeder, Robins similarly.

If you check the Chaffinch's foot, Joe, you'll see why he cannot perch. He has been affected by the papilloma virus which hits many Chaffinches - like the one on this page;

Most of our Chaffinches can perch on those feeders, however infected birds just cannot grip, therefore have to flutter Humming Bird - wise to grab seeds from the ports.
We have afemale who does just that, and one of her legs has almost withered away now.
