Nice shots Chris, the second one looks like a Merlin, was it quite small?

Not sure about the first one, possibly not a native bird, or perhaps even a hybrid.

On second thoughts, could be a Lanner Falcon.

Chris, I looked in this morning, but am only just able to reply!

I agree with Rolf's ID of the second pic.

The first one reminded me of a bird we saw at Beaulieu - during a Falcon display. I'd taken a pic of it, but didn't know the species.

Below is the pic I took, plus the falconer's email reply to my asking its ID this morning. The second pic shows her in the background (behind the Peregrine and the Kestrel) The third one shows a Lanner Falcon with its handler.

With regards the picture of Bess. For the purposes of education etc. She is a Peregrine Falcon and the only reason that you can’t see the “Malar Stripes” (moustache) is because of her posture.

However, she is a little different in colouration from a UK Peregrine because she has some “Saker” Falcon in her .

Perhaps therefore it is a Saker Falcon - or a Saker/Peregrine, or Lanner/Peregrine cross?
