This fisherman was robbed when he went to the Discovery Centre at Thatcham.

The place he was attacked is not actually on the Discovery Centre site, the place is hidden from view but access is via Muddy Lane at the side of the Discovery Centre. Reporters just using a well known site as reference really.

Is that one of the gates out towards the hide Eddy?

Yes, it's just around the corner of the bottom right-hand bend in the lake, to the right of the track to the railway crossing.
