An afternoon out for rarities. . .

Decided to dedicate this afternoon to spotting a couple of rarities.

Started at Welford, trying to spot the Dipper which has been appearing at the weir on pretty much a daily basis. Not much luck with the Dipper, but as it was really too far for photos and pretty bad light conditions and with rain, I took a couple of photos of a busy little Wren, some Muscovy ducks, a Grey Wagtail and a Little Egret.

Nice Grey Wagtail and Little Egret. I think Muscovy Ducks are so ugly though... Don't you?

Love the little Wren shots though - they are interesting, fun - and just different!

In between a couple of periods of Dipper spotting, I dropped up to Great Shefford and managed to get a photo of the Great White Egret which was showing well there (see other thread) and then dropped over to Hungerford to try and spot the Glossy Ibis, unfortunately, as I was heading into the common, the Ibis was heading out, so only caught a glimpse of it flying off.

Still not a bad result for a wet, dark afternoon, at least i know where to go back to for a second chance look.

Shame is that when I was looking for a way onto the common to see the Glossy Ibis, I took a short walk down to the canal edge and was immediately drawn to a Goldcrest flitting about the undergrowth and where was the camera? In the van.

I agree about the Muscovy Ducks, not the most attractive in the world.
