The Red Grouse is making a comeback I think. They have suffered for quite a few years now with a parasitic insect which is apparently deadly to the bird, in particular the young which die even if they only attract one or two of this parasite. This is one of about seventeen I counted recently in the Trough of Bowland though they are difficult to count because they fly around so much back and forth so its really easy to duplicate your counts with them. They have very funny 'laughing' call every time they take to the wing.
Pete.
