Large Linnet flock at Moor Copse Reserve

Heard it before I saw it, this large flock of 100 plus birds, appeared on the other side of the River Pang, about 100 metres away.



I then spotted them again this morning, they were high up in the centre of the wood, still difficult to photograph, but a little closer.



I've been trying to ascertain whether there are Twites and Redpoll in the flock.

I have only ever seen one redpoll and have never seen a twite

It was quite spectacular Babs, perticularly the noise, it was louder than the noise from the nearby M4 motorway.

I'm pretty sure you're right about this flock being entirely Linnet Rolf though I'm not as sure about you hearing them before you saw them. By this I mean a Twite flock is very vocal and incidentally very confiding too, you can actually walk up to them in a tree above your head and they are quite tolerant of this.
But back to their constant 'twittering', as I say the Twite does this persistently, whether or not the Linnet does (and you say this is what they are then they must) I don't recall recognising this so have to pass on this one. An excellent flock of 100+Linnet even so Rolf.
