We've always said that birds enjoy fruit like apples, pears and berries. But now there's proof that some birds like bananas too!
There you go Catherine, so not just the Blackcaps now.
How did I manage to miss this?
Of course, they're right - but Blue Tits love bananas too!
(You see, no-one believes me here!)
I'll try some later in the week, although last time I put some out, only the Blackcap touched them.
Well, at least the Blackcaps enjoyed them!
(Try sticking some on branches near other feeders, and those might tempt other birds to take a snack. If they are able to be reached from Blackbird perching points, I'm sure you'd find them tucking in too!)
They were near the feeders before, but will try again,. particularly if we get snow on Thursday.
Oh, I think you Will get snow on Thursday - and Friday, AND Saturday, etc. - though it may not be as much as first feared.
I bought two big bags of apples (£2 total) at Sainsbury's today in readiness for the flocks of Redwings and Fieldfares which are BOUND to visit us!
Went to a house the day before yesterday and they had saved lots of large apples during the Autumn and have started putting them back out into the trees in the garden, wedging them in the corners of the branches. Should make them easily accessible if it snows.
That's a good idea! Mine are lying on the ground just now, but would get covered if snow arrived.
