Possible stonechat

Taken at LWWT, not quite sure if it is a stonechat.

I would have guessed Female Stonechat, Rolf, as I don't know what a first-winter male would look like.... How can you tell the difference?

This was the first time I'd seen one. It seems as if my guess was right, all we have to now is decide the sex.

Just been back to the reference material, I think Catherine is right in it being a female, a first winter one, as the throat is not fully dark yet, in fact it is unusually pale, looks more like the Canary Islands version.

Yes. The male has a very dark head
Here is a pair, These are on the site some where in in Yateley blog or similar

The male is much darker in the summer
