I saw my first winter-grouping of Tits last Wednesday. I had opened the bedroom window to let some air in when I heard some unusual tweeting so stuck my head out. In the air were about 15 birds, making a bit of a racket, and appearing to be Long-tailed Tits (you can't miss that tail!). A couple landed on my trees and I got ready for a few minutes of joy, but the rest flew on by and the 2 followed
But then they did an 'about-turn'.. yay!!!!
Despite there being about 15, most were hidden behind the leaves, but I did catch a couple of Blue Tits, a Great Tit (doing a bit of rubber-necking), a Long-tailed Tit and a Chaffinch... and there were a couple of Dunnocks which I assume were already in the tree (I don't think that they took part in these groups).. and a couple of Blackbirds and a Robin visited at the same time, with the resident Sparrows looking on from the roof, a little narked that these 'foreigners' were invading "their" trees, and of course, in the background the Starlings were all gathered on an aerial plotting their next trouble-making.
Basically, it's now all 'go' in the garden
